The 2008 Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) was released today, and it includes a survey of students on their use of laptops in the classroom. The survey results showed that - despite the laptop banner's assumptions - students who used their laptops in class were actually more engaged than those who did not. "It was reassuring to know that...[students] are using the technology to advance their own learning," said George Kuh, director of the LSSSE. (longer article, from which that quote is borrowed, here.)
This is just further evidence in support of arguments I made at the AALS 08 session on laptops sponsored by the Section on Teaching Methods, and what I say in LS2 on pp. 76-81. The 2008 LSSSE Annual Report can be found here.
